The Mother's Chime is an artifact that Aelaris made from the simple materials of Cerago's earth. It is a delicate piece, almost more like a small flute than a chime, and made of what looks and feels like simple copper. Without knowing herself where they would fall, she scattered the pieces over Cerago and they have been resting there undisturbed ever since (or so she's assumed since humans prefer things that are shiny and not broken).So what's the big deal about this deceivingly plain artifact?
It will ultimately decide the contest between the sibling Gods.
If Andrell finds the pieces and joins the Chime together to ring it he will be able to wipe out all of humanity in one devastating sound blanket of destruction (and even though he's assured Dentaurn he won't be affected, he can't control what his mother's other-worldly device might do).
If Aleha finds the pieces first and destroys them Aelaris said that the subject of replacing humanity would be forbidden forever upon pain of heavenly banishment (the one thing that can shut Andrell up: the threat of losing his power as a God).
